What we do with what you send us.
This site has no analytics, no advertising and no third-party trackers. Nothing on the page is loaded from anyone else's server - the fonts are hosted here for exactly that reason. The only information we hold about you is what you choose to type into the contact form.
Who we are
Oblimin is a sole proprietorship in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India (Udyam UDYAM-TN-02-0494318).
We are the data controller - and, under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, the Data Fiduciary - for the information described here. For any question about it, including a complaint, write to our Grievance Officer at oblimin@outlook.in. We answer these ourselves.
What we collect, and only when you send it
Submitting the contact form sends us:
- Your name and email address, so we can reply.
- Your company, if you fill that field in. It is optional.
- Your message.
Our server also records, with the same message:
- The time it arrived.
- A one-way hash of your IP address - not the address itself. It is scrambled with a secret so it cannot be turned back into an address or matched to you elsewhere. We use it only to stop one sender flooding the form, and we chose to hash it precisely so that we do not hold an identifier we have no use for.
- Your browser's user-agent string - the line every browser sends describing itself. It helps us tell a real enquiry from an automated one.
We do not use cookies. Your choice of light or dark theme is kept in your own browser's local storage and is never sent to us.
Why we hold it, and on what basis
To read your message and reply to it. Nothing else. We do not send newsletters or marketing, and we will not add you to a mailing list.
You give us this information by choosing to write to us, which is the basis on which we hold it. Under UK and EU data protection law we also rely on our legitimate interest in responding to a business enquiry addressed to us.
Who else sees it
Nobody. We do not sell, rent or share your information, and we do not pass it to any third-party service. There is no customer-relationship platform, no email marketing tool and no form-handling service between you and us - the form posts to our own server and the message is stored there.
Where it is stored
On a server we operate, in a data centre in Arizona, United States. We are based in India. So if you write to us from the United Kingdom or the European Union, your message is transferred outside your country to reach us, and you should know that before you send it.
The database is not exposed to the internet; it can only be reached through the application on that server, and only we hold the keys to the machine.
How long we keep it
Twenty-four months from our last contact with you, after which the enquiry is deleted. Backups are kept for fourteen days and then overwritten.
If you would like it deleted sooner, ask us and we will do it.
What you can ask us to do
Write to oblimin@outlook.in and you can ask us to:
- tell you what we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete it;
- stop using it.
We will do it, and we aim to reply within a working day and to act within thirty days. There is no charge.
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Union and you think we have handled your information badly, you can complain to your national data protection authority - the ICO in the UK, or the Data Protection Authority in Belgium. In India you may complain to the Data Protection Board. We would rather you told us first, so we can put it right.
Changes
If we change how any of this works, we change this page and the date below with it. We will not quietly start doing something this page says we do not do.
